Equipment

If you have an iPhone 11/12, Google Pixel, or Samsung Galaxy, or know someone that does, that would be the ideal choice. Shooting in portrait mode with a 4.0 f stop will provide the best results.

Environment/Lighting

  • When possible, natural light works best – mid-morning or late afternoon near a window with a neutral background.
  • Find a spot that is not cluttered with a non-descript background. Can be an at-home office setting, an outdoor area with greenery, or in front of architectural elements that provide depth and substance.
  • Utilize basic lighting, when possible, but not essential with a good iPhone camera and supply of natural light. (Positioning of lighting/lamps behind the subject and in front will help highlight the subject from the background.)

Attire

  • Whatever you would wear to a client meeting is appropriate.
  • Avoid any busy prints and patterns.
  • Save color for accent pieces (Ties, scarves, etc.)

Best Practices

  • Shoot in landscape from just above beltline to a foot above the head. This will provide enough room to crop and adjust as needed.
  • Take several shots with multiple poses
    • slight angle left, look to right facing camera,
    • slight angle right, look to left facing camera,
    • lean in slightly
    • smile comfortably (professional and approachable)
    • position camera at eyeline and tilt as needed
