{"id":652,"date":"2024-06-26T13:17:00","date_gmt":"2024-06-26T13:17:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/quada1.wpenginepowered.com\/?post_type=news-and-updates&#038;p=652"},"modified":"2026-11-03T20:18:53","modified_gmt":"2026-11-03T20:18:53","slug":"nitrous-oxide-requirements","status":"publish","type":"news-and-updates","link":"https:\/\/quada.org\/fr\/standards-news-and-updates\/nitrous-oxide-requirements\/","title":{"rendered":"The Requirements for Safe Administration of Nitrous Oxide in QUAD A Facilities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: black;\">We have recently received several questions regarding the use of nitrous oxide in QUAD A facilities.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: black;\">The use of Nitrous Oxide in QUAD A facility classes B, C-M, and C is permitted; however<\/span>, the <span style=\"color: black;\">safety requirements listed in <strong>1-A-12<\/strong> and <strong>4-C-16<\/strong> below must be met for the<\/span> <span style=\"color: black;\">administration and the delivery system: <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1-A-12:<\/strong> In this facility, operations may be performed under:\u202f\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nitrous Oxide, which may be administered by any of the following:\u202f\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Anesthesiologist\u202f\u202f\u202f<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) under physician supervision if required by state\/local law\u202f\u202f\u202f<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Anesthesia assistant as certified by the National Commission for the Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants (NCCAA) under direct supervision of an anesthesiologist\u202f\u202f\u202f<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Registered nurse under the supervision of a qualified physician<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>4-C-16:<\/strong> If nitrous oxide alone is used, then a safe delivery system is used.\u202f A safe delivery system meets the following criteria:\u202f\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Alarms\u202f\u202f\u202f<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gas scavenging\u202f\u202f\u202f<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Color coding of tanks, knobs, and hoses\u202f\u202f\u202f<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Diameter index safety system for non-interchangeable connection of gases &#8211; pin index safety system\u202f\u202f\u202f<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Oxygen fail-safe system and oxygen flush capacity\u202f\u202f\u202f<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Quick connection for positive-pressure oxygen delivery\u202f\u202f\u202f<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Emergency air inlet\u202f\u202f\u202f<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reservoir bag\u202f\u202f\u202f<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Storage in secured area\u202f\u202f<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thank you for choosing QUAD A.
