Please note this newsletter applies to the following programs: ASC, OBP, OBS, RHC, OPT, OSM, and Pediatric Dentistry.

QUAD A standards do not address Tuberculosis (TB) screening and staff testing requirements. This must be addressed through facility policies and procedures and guided by local, state, and federal recommendations and/or requirements.  Upon survey, surveyors will verify compliance based on your facility policy.

TB screening and testing of health care workers is recommended by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) and may be required by regulations in your state based on TB prevalence in the area.  Once the initial screening and testing are completed, annual TB testing of healthcare workers is not recommended unless there is a known exposure or ongoing transmission in your community. In addition to testing and screening, staff education is important and should occur annually.

Please verify specific requirements with your local state Department of Health TB Program.  Additionally, you may find this information from the CDC on TB Screening and Testing of Health Care Personnel helpful:

If you have any further questions, please feel free to submit them to standards@QuadA.org.
