Importance of Reporting Outcomes in Outpatient Plastic Surgery

Patient safety in outpatient surgery is a primary focus for QUAD A. As a global, non-profit accreditation organization, we have partnered with thousands of healthcare facilities since 1980 to standardize and improve the quality of care they provide. Through our proprietary Patient Safety Data Reporting (PSDR) process, QUAD A demonstrates an unwavering commitment to advancing and protecting patient safety. The PDSR initiative requires QUAD A-accredited facilities to submit specific, anonymous, patient data sets related to adverse events and surgical outcomes, fostering a culture of continuous improvement in outpatient surgical care. This data is shared with academic institutions that are researching medical best practices. Dr. Samuel Lin and his team of researchers at Harvard Medical School have leveraged QUAD A's PSDR findings in their recently published research article on how processes affect patient safety outcomes.

Samuel Lin, MD, MBA, FACS is a double board-certified surgeon in Boston and a thought leader in plastic surgery research—notably as Program Director of the BIDMC-Harvard Plastic Surgery Residency Training Program, Chief of Plastic Surgery at BID-Needham, and Co-Director of the Harvard Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery Fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Dr. Lin has leveraged QUAD A’s PSDR data to examine the critical impact of the accreditation process on patient safety outcomes. His work has culminated in the publication of multiple scholarly research articles. The partnership between QUAD A, Dr. Lin’s research team, and their findings is detailed in the white paper, “QUAD A Database Research Highlights Importance of Reporting Outcomes in Outpatient Plastic Surgery” (Iulianna C. Taritsa, BA; Jose Foppiani, MD; Angelica Hernandez Alvarez, MD; and Samuel J. Lin, MD, MBA, FACS).
